Operations
The grass runway is 2700′ long, and we keep it mowed to approximately 40′ wide. WV77 currently operates as a private airport. We now have two hangars and a small office with a mix of light-sport, ultralight, and normal-category airplanes.
Please contact On Course Aviation LLC if you want to fly into the airfield or are interested in hangar space for your aircraft. All aircraft operating on or into WV77 must have a hold harmless agreement on file. You can download the hold harmless agreement from the link at the bottom of this page or contact the airport manager via email or phone to receive a copy. Please email a scanned copy or a photo, or mail a copy. Hold harmless forms are kept on file and can be approved for multiple flights.
The airport is usually in great shape from late May until early November. Operations from November to May must be approved in advance as the airfield may be quite wet depending on snow and rain and could be unusable. 2021 WV77 Layout
For many years, we have hosted an airplane get-together on the 2nd Saturday in September. At one time, the event was quite large, but it became harder to manage for Mom as she got older. 2018, we attempted to invigorate the event by combining it with an auto show. We (including my cousin Rob here) learned much about car shows and hosting events. So, in 2019, we moved the event to 21 September, allowing the car show part of our Wings and Wheels event to be listed with the area car show associations. See my blog post for updates and more information. Check out our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WingsandWheelsPenceSprings.
Accommodations: Our Camp and Glamping (Glamorous Camping) at the Airport
Escape the ordinary and immerse yourself in nature with our Glamping tents and cozy cabin (the “Camp”) at the Hinton-Alderson Airport! We have the perfect setting for you if you’re looking for a weekend getaway for a peaceful retreat. This year, our cabin is available for booking in addition to our Glamping tents.
Glamping Tents – For Glamping, we offer our fully equipped tents, each with gorgeous river views, a picnic area, and a fire pit. You can taxi right up to your tent site. Each tent has a queen-sized memory foam bed with blankets, linens, and towels. There is a hot shower at the hangar, along with a bathroom. Each site also has its own “Loo tent” for those personal moments if you don’t feel like a short walk to the hangar. There is an extra 6-man tent that you can set up for the kids or the extra folks with you. We do limit each site to 2 airplanes and six total campers. Though we consider this a fly-in place, driving in is fine! Get Away Glamping on the Greenbrier is a “Leave No Trace” operation, so we ask that it looks untouched when you leave! We’ll take care of the linens!
“Rustic River Camp – The Camp is perfect for those who prefer more amenities. Our cabin offers a warm and inviting “airplane-themed” atmosphere, complete with two bedrooms (1 King and two twins), as well as a set of camp bunk beds on the front porch to accommodate overflow guests; it sleeps 6, with a kitchen, bathroom with shower, and screened in porches front and back.”Rustic River Camp – The Camp is perfect for those who prefer more amenities. You can experience various nearby activities during your stay, including kayaking and floating on the river. The New River Gorge National Park, with its white water rafting and zip lines, is just a ride away! Rental cars are available at KLWB. Don’t want a car? Some local rafting companies will come to pick you up and put you in the Greenbrier River, meet you downstream, and return you to the airport!
To book our sites, go to AirBnB, select campsite locations > West Virginia, and search for Cub, Skyhawk, or Stearman for our glamping tents. You can also go to Hipcamp and search for Get Away Glamping on the Greenbrier. Our Camp will be posted to AirBnB soon. You can also call Kelly with inquiries at 757-810-6974.
We look forward to hosting you soon!
