My grandfather, James Tolley, founded the Hinton-Alderson Airport at Pence Springs, West Virginia in 1933. Jim Tolley started a flight school at WV77. One of his first students was my mother, Ruth Tolley Gwinn.
The picture above depicts my grandfather in front of his prize Waco and my mother in front of Aeronca C-2. Mom taught WWII pilots at Princeton, West Virginia and was the subject of an AOPA Magazine Pilots article in June of 2003. Find a video about her below:
